My partner, Victor Pleshev, an architect with a thriving small practice in Balmain NSW, and me, a successful market research consultant, lost everything in Paul Keating's 'recession we had to have' in 1992.

One by one, our clients went down the gurgler, taking us with them.

We avoided bankruptcy by the skin of our teeth by selling everything we owned.

Our home of 20 years in the Sydney inner city suburb of Balmain.

Cars.

Personal possessions.

What little we had left we packed up, along with our pets, and escaped the city lights for the rural life.

Still deeply in debt, we had no choice but to reinvent ourselves.

At a time in our lives when most people are putting in place plans for a peaceful retirement.

This is the story of an 18 year roller coaster ride.

From the depths of despair in crippling debt.

To the highs of realising our small and personal boutique business is now a successful player on the world stage.
